Privacy policy

What we collect when you buy a book from these pages, where it goes, and how to get it deleted. Making the book means handling photos and details about a child, so this page says specifically what we send where.

Who we are

  • Company: 24AE LLC (合同会社 24AE)
  • Representative: 神垣 聡
  • Address: 福島県会津若松市一箕町八幡墓料 107-1, Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima, Japan
  • Contact for anything on this page: info@kater.jp

We're a small company in Japan. There's no privacy team to route your message through — the address above reaches the people who make the books.

What we collect

When you pay

Checkout happens on Stripe's payment page, not ours. Stripe takes your email address, your card details and the billing information it needs, plus whatever you type into the fields we ask for there — the kid's name and age, and anything else you want in the story. We see everything except the card number: that stays with Stripe and never reaches our servers.

You don't need an account to buy a book here. There's nothing to sign up for and no password for us to hold.

When you email us the photos

  • The two or three photos of the child you send to info@kater.jp
  • The child's name, age and anything you tell us about them
  • Your email address, and the rest of whatever is in that thread

The book we make

The story text and the illustrations are generated from what you sent us and then finished by hand. We keep the file and the working data so we can redo a page, answer a question about it later, or send you the book again if you lose it.

If you use the question form

The form at the bottom of the English home page takes your name, email address, an optional phone number and your message. We also record the page you sent it from, where you came from, your browser's user agent and your IP address, so we can deal with spam and automated submissions.

What gets recorded automatically

When something breaks on screen we record the error and where it happened, along with your IP address. Where analytics is switched on, we also record which pages were viewed, where the visit came from and roughly which region it was in.

What we use it for

  • Writing and illustrating the book, including the AI steps
  • Taking the payment, and issuing a refund when one is due
  • Emailing you about your order and answering what you ask us
  • Finding out that something is broken, and why
  • Dealing with spam, automated submissions and abusive traffic
  • Seeing how the site is used

We don't use your information, or the child's, to train our own models, and we don't use the books we make for you as examples anywhere without asking you first.

Who we send it to

These are the companies that see part of it, and what each one gets.

Stripe
What we send: Your email address, your card details, the billing information Stripe asks for, and whatever you type into the fields on the payment page (the kid's name and age, and anything you want in the story)
Why: Taking the payment and handling anything that comes up about it, including refunds. Card numbers go straight to Stripe on their own payment page — they never reach our servers
Google (Gemini API)
What we send: The photos of the child you email us, and the details you give us for the story
Why: Drafting the story and generating the character and the illustrations
OpenAI
What we send: The same photos and text, but only when we generate the art with OpenAI's model instead
Why: Generating the illustrations
Supabase
What we send: Everything listed on this page
Why: Our database, our file storage, and the login system behind them
AWS Amplify
What we send: The technical record of your visit to this site
Why: Serving these pages
GlitchTip (error monitoring)
What we send: What broke and where, plus your IP address. If you're signed in to the Japanese app, your user ID and email address as well
Why: Finding out that something is broken, and why
Google Analytics (GA4)
What we send: Which pages you looked at, where you came from, and roughly what region you're in
Why: Seeing how the site is used
Email providers
What we send: Your name, your email address, your order details, and the photos you send us
Why: Receiving your photos, sending the finished book back, and answering you. Email travels through your provider and ours

The photos and the text you send us go to an image-generation API, because that's how the character and the illustrations get drawn. It isn't optional — there's no version of this product that makes the book without it.

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. There are no advertising or social-network tracking pixels on these pages. If we ever add one, we'll update this page before it goes live. Apart from the companies above, we don't hand your information to anyone else unless the law requires us to.

Where it's processed

We're in Japan, and the companies above are mostly in the United States. If you buy from North America, your information is transferred to and stored in Japan and the United States. If that isn't something you want, don't send us the photos — there's no way to make the book without moving them.

About the child's information

The photos, name, age and details are about a child, but they come from you, not from them. Children don't have accounts here, we don't collect anything directly from a child, and nothing about the child is used for advertising or profiling. Please only send us photos of a child you're the parent or guardian of, or one whose parent has told you it's fine.

The book has the child's name in it. We don't publish the books we make for you, and the English pages have no public gallery.

How long we keep it, and how to get it deleted

We haven't set a retention limit, and nothing is deleted automatically. We keep your order and the book so we can reprint or resend it and answer questions about it later.

Email info@kater.jp from the address you bought with and we'll delete it — the photos you sent, the generated art, the story and the order record. Deleting the database rows doesn't remove the image files on its own, so we do that part by hand when you ask. Stripe keeps its own record of the payment for as long as its own rules require, and we can't delete that for you.

You can also ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to correct it. Wherever you live, the same address works, there's no charge, and you don't need an account.

Cookies

These pages don't need cookies to work and don't set any of their own. Where analytics is switched on, it sets its own cookie to count visits. The payment page belongs to Stripe, and any cookies there are Stripe's.

What this page doesn't cover

  • A retention limit. We haven't set one, and we'll update this page if we do
  • A way for you to switch off analytics or error reporting from your side. We haven't built one
  • A screen where you delete things yourself. Deletion is by email, done by a person
  • The Japanese service, which takes accounts, addresses and phone numbers and ships printed books inside Japan. That has its own privacy policy in Japanese

Nothing on that list is being kept from you — it just doesn't exist yet. If we change any of it, the last-updated date at the top of this page moves.
